Tucked away in the heart of Gstaad, this tea boutique is more than just a place to sip and savor — it is a spatial experience, a hidden gem discovered below ground.

Confronted with the challenge of designing a boutique in a windowless basement, our approach was not to fight the absence of natural light but to embrace it — and transform it. The result is a space that plays with perception, reflection, and atmosphere.

Accessed through a concealed door behind a mirror on the ground floor, the journey begins with a quiet invitation: “Come down to slow down” — a glowing neon message located at the staircase landing. A subtle twist on Gstaad’s iconic motto, it sets the tone for what lies below: a retreat, a pause, a sanctuary.

The staircase becomes the first immersive moment. Its ceiling, clad in mirror, elongates the space and multiplies light, while a rich carpet guides visitors downward. At the base, guests are welcomed into a warm, enveloping environment where oak wood boiserie lines the walls, punctuated by mirrored inserts that catch the eye and expand the room’s dimensions.

Overhead, a dramatic 3D mirrored ceiling refracts the space infinitely — a visual metaphor for the layers of experience one uncovers within. Light dances in unexpected directions, creating a sense of depth and wonder that redefines the boundaries of the room.

This boutique is not just hidden — it’s revealed, slowly and thoughtfully, as an invitation to disconnect, unwind, and indulge in a moment of calm. A subterranean world designed to reflect not just light, but the quiet luxury of time slowed down.
